USO of Northern Ohio
STEP UP FOR SOLDIERS ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
There is a time-honored tradition of giving among America's electric cooperatives. Electric cooperatives wouldn’t have been founded had it not been for neighbors helping neighbors. In fact, they have only become more creative in identifying ways for their members and employees to support their communities.
This year, the USO is celebrating its 75th Anniversary, and Firelands Electric Co-op is proud to join forces with local radio stations WLKR-FM and K96-FM to support the USO of Northern Ohio Step Up for Soldiers annual drive. Beginning on Veteran’s Day, Nov. 11, and running through Dec. 12, the cooperative will serve as a donation location for the USO.
Co-op employees and members of the local community unite to support the brave men and women returning home to their families after serving our country. “We appreciate what these soldiers have done for us and the sacrifices they have made. The USO is an amazing nonprofit organization that continues to assist local military
personnel and their families,” says Firelands' Director of Member Services Andrea Gravenhorst.
USO centers around the world work to make the holiday season bright for service members and their families. Whether it’s an American soldier stationed abroad or returning home from deployment, the USO provides non-perishable items and supplies to the soldiers and their families.
- Donation Items: The USO will be assembling care packages for military families which contain items such as toys, games, stocking stuffers, toiletry items, healthy snacks, gloves, hats, scarves, and household items. Non-perishable household items may include: canned goods, paper products, health and wellness items, laundry detergent, school supplies, and backpacks.
- Baby Sea Bags: These comfort bags are provided to military families who have recently added a new member. Volunteers sew the bags, make blankets, and provide baby items like diapers, bottles, fluffy toys, and other items for the new bundle of joy.
Donation items can be dropped off at Firelands Electric’s office location in New London, Nov. 11 through Dec. 12, during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for a printable list of suggested donation items.
