Firelands Electric Co-op's commitment to community continues with our youth programs; funding scholarships for graduating high school seniors, sponsoring the Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., for high school sophomores and juniors and offering electric safety magic shows to local youth organizations and school systems.
Since 1954 Ohio's electric cooperatives have been helping graduating seniors continue their education through local and statewide scholarship competitions. Firelands Electric, in cooperation with the Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives (OREC) and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), sponsor two high school sophomores or juniors on a week long expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Click here to learn more about Youth Tour.
Firelands Electric offers electrical safety education programs for organizations, civic groups and first responders within and surrounding the cooperative's service territory that illustrate the potential dangers of electricity. New for 2017! The A Team is a new program designed to recognize middle school students for their hard work and dedication to education. Students in grades 6-8 who have at least three A's on their most recent report card are invited to enter. Each grading period, a drawing will take place and three students will be selected to receive an iTunes gift card.
