Youth Programs

Firelands Electric Cooperative's commitment to community includes several youth programs, such as funding scholarships for graduating high school seniors, sponsoring the Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., for high school sophomores and juniors, and rewarding middle school students for their academics.

Scholarship Opportunities

Since 1954 Ohio's electric cooperatives have been helping graduating seniors continue their education through local and statewide scholarship competitions. Firelands Electric and Ohio's Electric Cooperatives offer local and statewide scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Click here to learn more about our scholarship opportunities.

Youth Tour Experience

Firelands Electric, in cooperation with Ohio' Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), sponsor two high school sophomores or juniors on a weeklong, all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. Click here to learn more about Youth Tour.

Electrical Safety Education

Firelands Electric offers electrical safety education programs for organizations, civic groups, and first responders within and surrounding the cooperative's service territory that illustrate the potential dangers of electricity. The cooperative provides safety demonstrations for local elementary schools, safe kids programs, and Touch-A-Truck events. The A Team

"The A Team" program is designed to recognize middle school students for their hard work and dedication to education. Students in grades 6-8 who reside in a home served by Firelands Electric Co-op, and who have at least three A's on their most recent report card, are invited to enter. Each grading period, a drawing will take place and three students will be selected to receive an iTunes gift card. Winners will also have their photo published in Ohio Cooperative Living magazine and on social media. Click here for complete rules and entry requirements.
